Choosing jeans to complement your footwear
Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a struggle. With so many fits and fabric finishes to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start. As well as finding the perfect fit, you want to find a pair that work well with your footwear. Here is our guide to selecting great jeanswear that shows off your fabulous feet.
Boot cut – it may seem odd to include a denim cut that obscures most of your shoes, but we’ve included boot cut jeans because they really can show compliment your footwear. Boot cut jeans flare out a little at the bottom, making them perfect to wear over ankle boots as you don’t get any bunching at the bottom of your jeans.
Boot cut jeans are also great with heels as they help to lengthen the leg and create height. When you are choosing boot cut jeans to wear with heels, take your heels with you to try on with any pairs you like. It’s the only way to tell how well they’re going to sit with your heel height.
Straight leg – the trusted straight leg jean is making something of a comeback this year and it’s easy to see why. They give you a slim shape, but are more versatile than any other kind of denim cut. Straight cut jeans look great with trainers, pumps and sandals too.
Boyfriend cut – the boyfriend cut first appeared last year and is still big on the high street. These slightly slouchy straight cut jeans are designed to look like you’ve just borrowed your boyfriend’s, only they’re more flattering to a feminine shape. These look great with casual pumps and baseball boots, as well as rolled up with sandals or heels.
Carrot cut – the carrot cut jean is slightly wide across the hips and then gradually tapers in all the way down to a snug ankle fit. Think of them as a more slimline version of the harem pant cut. These are all over the high street now and their tight fit at the ankle means that they are perfect for showing off footwear, as none of your shoe is obscured. Carrot cuts jeans are great for a vintage feel, with a pair of brogues or flat courts, but can be given a harder edge by teaming with heels too.
As all of these denim shapes are on trend right now, shopping for these jean shapes is easy as they are all available in high street stores as well as online. For the broadest range, look for high street fashion stores like New Look, who specialise in denim and have their own dedicated jeans collections.
